I thought I would start a thread where people could post about their station setups and and to give people ideas on mounting, etc. I am running WUHU on a dedicated Windows Server 2003 machine after having issues with the serial port on my XP box. I have a Davis Wireless VP2 that I purchased from Provantage. The ISS is mounted on a 30" steel post attached to my 5ft fence: The anemometer is attached to 150" steel conduit piping, with my old 10' aluminum antenna mast secured to it for added stability. The conduit is attached to my deck post using pipe straps and is 80" off the ground. This setup brings the height of the anemometer to just about 20ft above the ground: I grounded the mast using 4wg copper wire and an 8ft copper rod pounded into the ground next to my deck. I am obstructed by my townhome to the south, but this is about as good a setup as I could get without having to climb up onto my roof and deal with grounding from that height.

Nice setup... Almost makes me embarrassed to post my pictures.

mine is pretty cut & dry with the vantage vue...roof mount as high as I could get it to get away from tree obstructions. so far temps seem pretty good...tad low daytime, little warm at night. precip gets missed a little when windy. all fixed with tweaks. galvanized pipe through hole in roof along outside truss. about 6 feet above roof, 4 feet in attic secured to truss. probably about 30 feet off the ground. Here's my setup: - Davis Vantage Vue ISS, mounted ~7 feet above ground on a galvanized pole
- Vue Console, connected to a Dell Inspiron Mini 10 via IOGEAR USB to Serial (GUC232A)
As the picture shows, the ISS siting is not ideal. It's the best I can do given the HOA restrictions.

Nice setup... Almost makes me embarrassed to post my pictures. Thanks! It took a long time to figure out the best material to use to mount it and also the best location. I wish I could get it up on the roof, I don't like missing most of the southerly winds, but that wish is overcome by the work/fear of going up on my 45 degree pitched roof! mine is pretty cut & dry with the vantage vue...roof mount as high as I could get it to get away from tree obstructions. so far temps seem pretty good...tad low daytime, little warm at night. precip gets missed a little when windy. all fixed with tweaks. galvanized pipe through hole in roof along outside truss. about 6 feet above roof, 4 feet in attic secured to truss. probably about 30 feet off the ground. Great looking setup! Very jealous of your view and your lack of obstacles blocking your winds. Is your mast grounded? Here's my setup: - Davis Vantage Vue ISS, mounted ~7 feet above ground on a galvanized pole
- Vue Console, connected to a Dell Inspiron Mini 10 via IOGEAR USB to Serial (GUC232A)
As the picture shows, the ISS siting is not ideal. It's the best I can do given the HOA restrictions. I hear ya about HOA restrictions. Mine hasn't said anything about my setup, and if they do I will try to bribe them with free weather data! That reminds me, in the debate over allowing residents to put up wind turbines for green energy, the county next to me has decided to make people apply for permits to install anemometers!!

New here to the forum and thought I'd share what I've got going.
Running WUHU on an old Dell 8200 desktop running Win2k connected to marylandwx's former station (Lacrosse WS2308). Haven't taken any photos yet, but it's working great so far, got it up and running last week just in time for the big rain event we had. Anemometer is up on an 8' mast on the roof of the house - used a TV antenna mount that was there already. That was about the best I could do as it does get obstructed to the east as the house backs up to a woods with solid 50' + tall trees, but other directions it seems to do alright. I still need to clean up some of my wiring outside, as well as complete the electronics hack that can be done with these Lacrosse units to get them updating every few seconds wirelessly. Working on getting a website going as time allows... maybe that'll get done once I get some other projects done around here.
